Travel Information
All horses leaving Alberta are required to have a Livestock Identification Permit. This must be obtained from Livestock Identification Services.
If you are travelling to the US with your horses, you must have an up to date Coggins test, and you must have a recent export exam. If you are planning to stay overnight in Montana, you will need a Montana permit. Requirements for travelling through individual states will change, so it is important to check for any disease alerts in the states you are planning to travel through; have a look at the Equine Disease Communication Center website linked below. As well, during the COVID-19 pandemic, make sure to stay up to date on requirements for essential travel across the border.
