The team is so excited to welcome Dr. Katy White back to practice after maternity leave. For those of you who haven’t met Katy, she has a veterinary focus in sports medicine, performance horse care, gastroscopy, and ultrasound. She graduated from the University of Calgary in 2019, and completed an internship in Colorado at Littleton Equine Medical Center in 2020. She practiced in BC for several years before joining Burwash Equine in 2022.

Dr. White will be accepting patients for appointments starting on April 1, 2025. 

Vaccines, deworming, powerfloats, fecal tests, sheath cleans and bloodwork! It’s time to turn our focus to preventative care for our equine partners. 

We are offering Herd Health Visits to all barns, stables, and farms in our community. Regardless of how many horses are at your location, we are dedicated to providing smooth, convenient, and personalized Herd Health Visits so that your horse is covered for another year. 

In addition to the basics, we also offer gastroscopes, lameness exams, ophthalmic exams, and regenerative laser therapy (to name a few). Notifying us in advance of service requests will help us ensure that there is adequate time and the appropriate equipment available at the Herd Health Visit.

Regenerative Laser Therapy (RLT) is a safe, non-invasive treatment method that involves administration of short, high-energy light pulses that penetrate deep into tissues creating a photo-acoustic wave that propagates into deeper tissues. These waves interact with the cells in soft tissues and stimulate the release of growth factors that would have not been released naturally. This has been shown to regenerate tissue, re-align fibers, reduce scar tissue and provide comfort to horses.

While not all laser therapy is created equal, the RLT offered by Burwash Equine Services is backed by peer-reviewed science to validate its use in improving healing in cases of wounds, tendon and ligament injuries, and general soft tissue inflammation as seen in horses with back & pelvic pain. For chronic conditions like osteoarthritis, RLT can improve range of motion and stiffness. In contrast to shock wave therapy, regenerative laser therapy generally does not require sedation and is well tolerated by the horse.
