Endosopic Evaluation
An upper airway endoscopy is a valuable diagnostic tool if your horse is exhibiting poor performance, cough, difficulty swallowing, or nosebleeds. A flexible camera is passed up the horse’s nostril and allows us to image the nasal cavity, ethmoid turbinates, back of the throat, and guttural pouches.
A gastroscopy is the only way to know for sure if your horse is suffering from gastric ulceration. There are two main types of gastric ulceration (squamous and glandular), and they are treated in a different manner, so it is important to get an accurate diagnosis. A recheck gastroscopy after the treatment course is complete is also valuable to ensure the ulceration is gone and no further treatment is necessary.
